Overview

NSD aims to cultivate leading talents with professionalism, foresight, and a comprehensive perspective. It offers teaching programs in three areas: public policy, business, and academia. The graduates exceed 20,000, with a global reach and a large number of leading talents.

NSD offers the highest level of academic education in China, with economics Ph.D. graduates becoming a vital part of the academia in China. The double-degree program in economics has won multiple awards, and the undergraduate program in economics (National Development concentration) is distinctive.

Business education emphasizes the integration of Chinese and Western approaches and the unity of knowledge and practice. It develops students' ability to understand micro-issues from a macro-standpoint and truly grasp the "big picture" in management, earning the reputation of being a "Business School within a think-tank".

The Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development is dedicated to training governance talents for developing countries and international organizations, offering master's and doctoral programs taught in English.

 

Undergraduate and Graduate Education

【Economics Undergraduate Program】 A four-year program enrolling freshmen and sophomores of Peking University who wish to change their major. Provide the liberal arts education, based on economics, adopts a cross-disciplinary teaching approach.

【Economics Double-Degree Program】 A two to three year program enrolling freshmen and sophomores of Peking University, cultivating compound high-quality talents with an interdisciplinary background.

【Economics-Minor Program】 A two to three year program enrolling full-time students and eligible undergraduate graduates in Beijing, cultivating compound high-quality talents with an interdisciplinary background.

【Doctoral Program】 A four to five year program enrolling Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and students with a master degree who apply through the "application-assessment” system, cultivating academic research talents who have a deep understanding of China and are highly internationalized.        

 

Business Education

BiMBA Business School of the National School of Development at Peking University was established in 1998. BiMBA was the first joint MBA program approved by the State Council in China. In 2000, EMBA program and EDP (Executive Development Programs) was established.

With a combination of East & West learning, world-class professors and courses and teaching that integrate knowledge and practice, and the humanistic traditions of Peking University, it cultivates entrepreneurs and business management talents.

EMBA graduates can obtain a master's degree and graduate certificate from Peking University. The international MBA program is in cooperation with Vlerick Business School in Belgium and University College London in the UK. Second master's degree programs are in cooperation with Fordham University in the USA and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The school also offers the DPS Financial Management Doctoral Joint Training Program, the EDP Program, and the Chengze Entrepreneur Research Program.

 

Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development

In September 2015, President Xi Jinping announced at the United Nations headquarters the establishment of the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development. Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development (ISSCAD) was officially established at the National School of Development of Peking University (NSD) on April, 2016 and began classes in September of the same year.

Combining local knowledge with global vision, the new Institute is committed to excellence in national development research, talent training for developing countries, and dynamic exchange platform for global cooperation, and devoted to promoting equitable, inclusive and sustainable growth by sharing knowledge and experience on matters of public leadership and national development, with developing countries.

The Institute offers degree programs including a Master of Public Administration (National Development) and a Doctorate in National Development Studies. The Master's degree program lasts for one year and the PhD program lasts for three to four years.

Since its establishment, ISSCAD has trained more than 400 students from over 70 countries and regions, many of whom hold senior management positions in their own countries.    

 

Teaching Honors

Many faculty members, including Justin Yifu Lin, Hai Wen, Li Ling, Yao Yang, and Lu Feng, have received the title of "Top Ten Teachers of Peking University"; Justin Yifu Lin received the Ministry of Education's "Teaching Master Award"; Li Ling received the "Teaching Master Award" from Beijing Higher Education; Huang Zhuo received Peking University's "Teaching Excellence Award"; and Lei Xiaoyan received the "Kerry Group Guo Family Foundation Outstanding Tutor Award."

The Economics Double Degree Program won the First Prize of the Peking University Teaching Achievement Award and the Second Prize of the Beijing Teaching Achievement Award (2004).

The MBA program has been ranked as the best MBA program with the most investment value by the Chinese version of Forbes for many years; it has been awarded the "Business School with the Most Market Value" by the Chinese version of Fortune; it has been ranked first in mainland China in the QS World University Business School Rankings multiple times. The Peking University-Vlerick Business School MBA has received the three major accreditations of AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS.

The EMBA program has been honored with the "Highest Alumni Satisfaction" by the Chinese version of Forbes.
