Campus History

Langrun Garden

Langrun Garden was built around the early Qing Dynasty and was one of the best preserved royal garden sites of the early Qing Dynasty. The garden is surrounded by a closed water system, and the building groups on the island are divided into three places: East, Middle and West.

Langrun Garden was used as the office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the late Qing Dynasty. The three characters on the inscribed tablet "Zhifuxuan" were personally written by Emperor Xianfeng.

1952: After Peking University inherited the campus of Yenching University, it purchased Langrun Park from Zaitao.

1994: In 1994, the eastern part of Langrun Garden was placed under the China Center for Economic Research

2001: Wanzhong Garden was built.

Chengze Garden

Chengze Garden is one of the representatives of royal gardens in the early Qing Dynasty. Despite having weathered many trials and changes, it remains relatively intact. The ancient Wanquan River passes through the garden, and the inner lake is connected to the river. The park received its official name of Chengze Garden in Daoguang period. It is located in the middle of the three royal gardens (Changchun Garden, Yuanmingyuan Garden and Summer Palace), and the successive owners of the garden in the Qing Dynasty were all very prominent.

In 1953, ZHANG Boju transferred the park to Peking University.

In 1992, Chengze Garden became a cultural relics protection unit in Haidian District, Beijing. In 1999, it was promoted to a key cultural relics protection unit in Haidian District, and in 2001, it was promoted to a municipal cultural relics protection unit in Beijing.

In 2008, Chengze Garden was handed over to NSD to repair and build a new teaching office area. In 2015, the foundation stone was laid. In 2021, it was fully completed and put into use as the new office area of NSD and ISSCAD.
