The End of the Third Summer School, A New Journey for the NSE

July 27th, 2016, Beijing

The Third Summer School held by Center for New Structural Economics at Peking University made a great success. From July 18th to 24th, 2016, participants from more than 20 countries have gathered together to have lectures given by reputable professors and also have a field trip to Suzhou.

Professor Justin Yifu Lin, Celestin Monga, Keun Lee, Jiajun Xu, Yong Wang, Jiandong Ju, Xiaobo Zhang, Binkai Chen and Xifang Sun have delivered informative lectures on the frontier research related to New Structural Economics and also shared their insights with all participants.

On July 22nd, participants and faculty members visited the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). The first stop was the SIP planning exhibition building, covering an area of 15000 square meters and demonstrating the main achievements since the establishment of SIP and its future development plan.

The whole group visited the office of Tongcheng Technology Company, which was a truly insightful look into the blooming tourism industry of China. Another destination is DAIKIN Air-Conditioning (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., a comprehensive manufacturing company which has been engaged in multiple fields including air conditioning, flour chemistry and hydraulic machinery.

On the morning July 24th, the last day of the Summer School, participants made presentations about their research proposals, and exchanged ideas within each group. Based on their presentations, professors gave comments and suggestions for further improvement and the screening of candidates of Special Fund.

In the afternoon, the graduation ceremony was held at Chen Shouren International Research Center. Professor Wang Yong and Professor Jiajun Xu gave their final remarks. Mbofholowo Tsedu from South Africa and Su Caizhen from China, as representatives, delivered their speeches about their gains and experiences in the Summer School. Certificates were presented for all participants as well as volunteers. The graduation ceremony finally ended in a round of applause.

The Third Summer School on New Structural Economics has offered a precious opportunity for students and researchers all over the world to gather together, learn about the essence of New Structural Economics and exchange ideas on economic research. It is not only a bridge of friendship, but also a driving force for future academic studies.
