RESPONSIBLE FOR:                  Planning and managing the activities of the Global Research Consortium on Economic Structural Transformation; utilizing communication platforms and channels to promote New Structural Economics

THE GLOBAL RESEARCH CONSORITUM ON ECONOMIC STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATION (GReEST) – CONTEXT

The Global Research Consortium on Economic Structural Transformation is initiated by the Center for New Structural Economics (CNSE) at Peking University, which aspires to fostering intellectual partnerships to promote original thinking and innovative practice in an effort to help developing countries to achieve economic structural transformation.

The GReCEST serve as one of the priority areas under the umbrella of the ‘Global Coalition of Southern Think Thank Networks’ co-convened by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). The launch event of the GReCEST was held in the headquarters of the United Nations on May 18, 2016 in New York, United Nations.

The GReEST has 31 founding members from all over the world, including the Center for Global Development, Overseas Development Institute, and African Center for Economic Transformation. The Secretariat is housed at the Center for New Structural Economics at Peking University (CNSE).

The Center for New Structural Economics at Peking University, founded by Professor Justin Yifu Lin, aims to promote in-depth research and application of New Structural Economics, forging a platform to lead internationally theoretic research in new development ideas, to offer policy advice, and to provide educational programs.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

The Center for New Structural Economics (CNSE) needs a proactive, meticulous and highly-organized Policy and Communications Officer, based in Beijing, with two primary responsibilities: (1) to plan and undertake the activities of the GReCEST, reporting to the Executive Deputy Director (also, General Secretary of the GReCEST); and (2) to provide and implement an effective and comprehensive communications strategy, reporting to the Chief Officer. A highly motivated individual with substantial experience of the communications sector, policy and research, with excellent writing and interpersonal skills, you will take the lead in ensuring high quality policy, communications and research support for the work of the GReCEST.  

MAIN DUTIES

The Policy and Communications Officer will play a key role in helping us to further unlock the potential and impact of these areas of our work. They will:

?   Plan and manage the activities of the GReCEST;

?   Be a strong communicator with flair for understanding, capturing and communicating joint initiatives to our membership of the GReCEST;

?   Provide administrative support to the General Secretary of the GReCEST;

?   Utilize communication platforms and channels to promote New Structural Economics and maximize the impacts of our research;

?   Provide project management support to the policy-oriented international research programs in Africa and other developing countries.

ESSENTIAL

?   Graduate with relevant professional qualifications and/or experience.

?   Demonstrated ability to produce high quality written products in English.

?   Track record of providing high quality support for communications strategies.

?   Evidence of effective diplomatic/representational skills, ideally at national and international level.

?   Ability to take the initiative and play a leading role in managing and organizing events, and high level meetings.

?   Ability to be a program lead/manager in defined areas.

?   Experience of working to tight deadlines and under pressure.

?   High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and website management

?   Experience of working with or within international organizations.

?   Willingness to travel and work some evenings and weekends

?   Proficiency in both oral and written Chinese

DESIRABLE

?   Ability to speak one of the working languages (especially French) of the UN in addition to English;
