Introduction of China Think Tank Report

On January 22, 2014, the Think Tank Research Center of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences released its first Think Tank Report, the first of its kind in China, and announced the think tanks ranking in respect of influence.  By adopting several rounds of assessment, conducting extensive and oriented questionnaire surveys and referencing opinions from policy makers, scholars, think tank experts and the media, the think tanks were ranked according to overall influence, professional influence and influence among the same types of think tanks.

National School of Development at Peking University emerged in the ranking for professional influence and ranked in the top five in economic policy research, political development research, cultural development research, ecological civilization research, and urbanization research, which fully displayed the powerful strength and huge potential for policy research of National School of Development at Peking University.

Since its official establishment in 2008, the National School of Development has built itself into leading and world class think tank. Focusing on national development and based on China's practice and world experience, the National School of Development organizes comprehensive interdisciplinary research and gathers top-notch academic intelligence in proposing forward-looking strategy, systems, policy and basic theory concerning the sustainable development of China and evolution of world patterns and nurturing talent to fuel this national development. In addition, the National School of Development is constantly promoting the internationalization, standardization and localization in China's social science research and education system, and driving innovation in research methods and talent nurturing.

National School of Development at Peking University evolved from the China Center for Economic Research (CCER) founded by six returning professors including Justin Yifu Lin, Hai Wen and Yi Gang in 1994. Over the years, the China Center for Economic Research has made innovative contribution to China's economic education, scientific research and international academic discussion, especially for national policy consultancy. In 1998, Justin Yifu Lin et al. jointly founded BiMBA, a pioneering step of international MBA education in China.

Academic leaders are increasingly attracted by the high-end academic platform, good academic atmosphere, and the growing comprehensive influence of National School of Development, making it a hub for China’s intelligentsia.

Since 2008, the NSD grown its success with the CCER and BiMBA and has established the China Macroeconomic Research Center, Center for Healthy Aging and Development Studies, the Institute for Law and Economics, Center for Energy and Development, and the Center for Human Capital and Policy, making itself a cutting-edge talent training base fueling national development, and a think tank heavily relied upon by the Chinese Government.
